Duties

Requirements

This individual needs a lot of patience and a good ear to distinguish each syllable in the Japanese language even when vowels are blurred together. Advanced timing, ASS/SSA skills, and general creativity are needed to come up with neat karaokes. Some understanding of Japanese at the hiragana and katagana level are needed. Familiarity with code page encoding to get the Japanese text to display properly is a plus but not required.

NOTE: In my opinion, Chinese and Korean karaokes are inherently easier to do than Japanese ones. You don't even have to know the language to do it. -sog

Useful Tools

If you are interested in using any of these tools, please send a message to thesog. All these tools require the .NET Framework.

  • UniPage (unipage.exe)
    • This is a little tool written by thesog to convert Unicode to Code Page and back. Useful when working off of a Japanese script in Unicode and putting content into an SSA file which does not support Unicode.
  • Karaoke Assist (kassist.exe)
    • Program to create complicated karaoke sequences automatically for you. This is still a work in progress but was used to create the ending karaoke in Ace wo Nerae and most of the Ayumi videos. The main concept with this tool is to seperate the "effects" from the karaoke text so that the same effects can be reused and applied to other karaoke texts.
  • Kana Assist (kanassist.exe)
    • Tool to convert a romaji timed karaoke into japanese text.
