Introduction
The quality checker is really the last chance we get to make sure a release is as pristine as it is going to be. This individual should be fluent in English and approach this role as a viewer.
Things To Look For
Long subtitle duration
Subs that stay on the screen for too long can be distracting especially if there is no dialogue. These are timing errors and should be adjusted accordingly.
Three lines of subtitles
This crowds the screen and forces the viewer to read too much at once. These can be a translation or timing error. Sometimes the sentence can be revised or expressed more succintly. If the translation looks solid, then the subtitle should be split in time.
Subtitle spoilers
Subs that giveaway the plot before the dialogue is even spoken should be avoided. A typical example of this is "I... love you!" showing on the screen even though the "love you" part is spoken 10 seconds later.
Accurate notes
Make sure the notes make sense and have ample time to be read. If additional notes would be helpful make a note (pun) of those.
Grammar
These should have been caught by the editor but since you are the gate keeper, be on the lookout for grammatically incorrect or spelling errors.
